Welcome to Riverside ~
January 28th, 2010
Dear Parents:
This past Monday Riverside kicked off a Haiti Relief Fundraising campaign. All week students have been emptying their piggy banks and donating their change to this great cause. A reminder that if any families would like to make a lump sum donation, and wish to receive a tax receipt, please ensure that you make your cheque out to the Canadian Red Cross.
A reminder that a few events are occurring on Monday of next week. The Olympic torch is coming to Maple Ridge early Monday morning on February 8th. The celebration starts at approximately 6:30 a.m. with the torch coming to Spirit Square for 7:15 a.m. We are encouraging families to attend the festivities. Please note that parking will be difficult so if you are planning to attend, plan to park far from the Centre of town, use transit, or walk! We are also encouraging students to wear red on white on this historic day. For a detailed interactive route, please go to the following website: http://www.vancouver2010.com/more-2010-information/olympic-torch-relay/olympic-torch-relay-interactive-map/ . Please call the school or send a note if your child will be late on this day. If we are informed any student attending this event will not be marked late.
Monday evening at 6:00 pm Hammond Elementary will be hosting the third General Parent meeting regarding Riverside student transitions for the 2010/2011 school year. Free babysitting will be provided. If you are unable to attend these meetings please ensure that you visit the Blog that has been set up at http://schools.sd42.ca/rsp/ . If you do not have internet access then please contact the office and the most current minutes will be sent home with your child.
Tomorrow morning at 9:00 am we have our monthly pancake breakfast that we do invite all families to attend. Mrs. Unwin, our Superintendent of Schools, will be helping to flip and serve pancakes. Parent volunteers are always welcome. Please ensure that you do send your child to school with a plastic plate and a fork also all money brought in for the breakfast will be donated to the Haiti Relief Campaign so please ensure that you send in their $1.00.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. T. Dailey
