January 27: Day Sail on a Warship. LOCATION: Vancouver, BC. Restrictions:Minimum Age – 12 Years (for Girls). Activities include tours of ship duty stations, crew quarters and operational equipment; RCAF joint search and rescue demonstration, ship firefighting simulation, and demonstration of the warship’s impressive maneuvering capabilities. February 10: Firefighting Information Session at the JIBC Maple Ridge Campus (13500 256th Street Maple Ridge, BC V4R 1C9). Curious about a firefighting career? Discover first-hand what it takes at our upcoming hands-on information session. In our new, hands-on information session format, learn about the Fire Fighting Technologies Certificate (FFTC) program and get a taste of firefighting by practicing some essential firefighting skills at one of Western Canada’s most extensive firefighting training facilities. Cost to participate is $25. Minimum age to participate is 18.

February 24: Greenbricks: Green Collar Futures for students in grades 10 – 12. Chose interactive breakout sessions and explore careers in. the “green economy”. Lunch and prizes free. The date is February 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hilton Metrotown. Registration is limited so register early at http://www.greenbricks.ca/Futures.
February 28: Vancouver Community College is hosting an open house for students interested in the trades. This event is called Try-A-Trade and is for students in grades 9 to 12. The date is February 28th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Register now at vcc.ca.
February 28: Emily Carr University is putting on many teen programs throughout the year. The Portfolio Workshop is on Jan 13 and Jan 20. This is a two day art documentation workshop for students looking to prepare their portfolio for post-secondary admissions. There is also a new spring break two day workshop in Soft Sculpture/Felting on March 17 and 18 and also Life Drawing on March 24 and 25. The Junior Art Intensive in the summer is a two week exploration of 2D and 3D art making for youth ages 13 to 15. In the summer there is also the Summer Institute for Teens from July 3 to 17. This is a rigorous 4 week studio based program that prepares high school for a post-secondary education at an art & design university. More information can be found at: teens.ecuad.ca.
March 10 & 11: The Sky’s No Limit: Girls Fly Too: Free flights are available for females of all ages. This event takes place at Abbotsford Airport on March 10thand 11th from 9:00 to 5:30 p.m. Join them for a variety of hands on displays and fun activities. This event hopes to encourage and inspire girls in the fields of Aviation, Aerospace, Marine and Defense and other STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) based fields. KPU: Consider attending one of our Information Sessions which are offered throughout the year. The Cloverdale campus shops and labs will be open between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m., and provide you with an opportunity to speak with instructional faculty from all trades and technology programs.
