You’ve worked hard to make it to this point — show your pride with THSS grad apparel! The last day to order grad hoodies is Thursday, December 14.

Grads, book your portraits now!

Grads can now book their portraits online. Here are the steps:

  • Go to www.mountainwest.ca 
  • At the top of the screen click on “Book A Photo Session”
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, select the school (Thomas Haney)
  • On the left-hand side of the screen, “select session”(grad portrait)
  • Select a date from the calendar. Available dates are indicated in white boxes with blue dates (January 8 – 11)
  • Select your time by clicking the “book it” button
  • Only book one appointment (it will include both casual and formal poses)
  • Fill in the required information
  • Make sure that you arrive early to your appointment, and be sure to bring the $20 sitting fee

Grad Tributes

Parents and guardians of grads are invited to have their child’s baby/toddler photo, along with congratulatory wishes, printed in the 2017-2018 yearbook for a $30.00 fee.

Tributes should be no more than 300 characters (roughly 50 words), and the baby or toddler photo must be a 300 DPI jpeg. Click here for a sample tribute / photo.

Your tribute and photo should be emailed to: parenttribute2018@gmail.com with your child’s full name in the subject line.  For more information please check page 80 in the student planner.

The $30.00 fee can be paid via credit card on the parent portal, or in the school office with cash or a cheque made out to THSS. Parent tributes are optional.

The absolute deadline for photos and parent tributes is Friday, January 19, 2018.

 

2017 – 2018 Parent Consents

We have nearly 200 students that will lose internet access near the end of November because their parents have not responded to the I.T. Appropriate Use policy on the Parent Portal.

Please go to https://parents.sd42.ca/  The polices are under “School Upcoming Forms” and the form name will say “Parent Consent for <<student name>> / 2017/2018.  You must read / scroll through each section before permissions are accepted by the portal.

If you do not see this form under “School Upcoming Forms” you can check to see if you’ve already completed these policies. Go to the “History” top tab and scroll down to “Policy History” to confirm that you have consented to the appropriate sections.

E-Report Cards

This year we will be moving to an electronic report card for all students. Paper report cards will no longer be sent home with students. Students and parents both have access to MyClass. You may have received an email from MyClass with log-in information; if not please make sure that your email address is accurate on the Student Verification Form. In order to create your log-in for MyClass, the program in which report cards can be accessed, your email address must be current.  If you have any questions regarding your MyClass account, please email myclass@sd42.ca

2017 Grads: Your Dogwood Diplomas Have Arrived

Dogwood Diplomas: Your official Graduation “Dogwood” Diploma has now arrived at the THSS office. Please come by between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm to pick it up!  It is very important that you come to the school and pick this up as we do not have the budget to mail each one home.   The certificate you received at the ceremony is a congratulations keepsake and not your official diploma.

We hope you are enjoying the fantastic weather we have had this summer. As we inch closer to September 5th, we wanted to share some information that will make the school start up process clear.

Student Fees/Locker Distribution

We encourage you to pay the $28.00 in student fees online as soon as possible (a portal announcement has been sent).  Mrs. Shamro will also be available in the office as of August 28 from 7:30 am – 3:00 pm if you wish to pay fees in person (cash or cheque only).

We will have an early locker distribution opportunity for students on Thursday, August 31st.  Students that come in on this day will get first choice of lockers within the bank assigned to their TA. To receive a locker students must:

  1. have paid student fees (paying via the portal will mean the process goes faster. Mrs. Shamro will also be taking cash and cheque payments at the school from August 28th onwards)
  2. have resolved any outstanding learning resource invoices, and/or student fees from previous years

Early locker distribution on Thursday, August 31st will run according to the following schedule. Students should arrive on this day with a printout of the receipt to speed up the process. (August 31st is the only date for early locker distribution. Students unable to attend on this date will have to wait until September 5th).

YOUR FRIEND SHOULD ARRIVE WITH YOUR TA NUMBER AND A RECEIPT SHOWING THAT YOUR STUDENT FEES ARE PAID.

Opening Week Schedule:

Our goal for opening week is to have students spend meaningful time relationship-building with Teacher Advisors, as well as ensuring students see each of their set block teachers by running a full week’s rotation via shorter class times. Timetables will be distributed to students during TA on the first morning of school.

TA Attendance

Please note that, unless a student has an administration approved work at home form, attendance during TA is required. With the exception of the first day of school, TA starts at 8:30 and it is our expectation that students arrive on time. We will be running regular TA attendance reports and students with regular absences will be required to make up their missed time.

All student absences must be excused by a parent or legal guardian or they will be recorded as “unexcused,” and parents will be contacted by the autodialer. Absences reported to teachers may not always get excused, so be sure to contact the office in one of the following ways:

  1. Log into the parent portal and click the “Report Absence” tab. Select your child’s name from the drop-down menu. Enter the date of his/her absence or tardiness, as well as any other relevant details. *This is the preferred method to report an absence
  2. Call the school directly at (604) 463-2001 and press 2.
  3. Send a signed note with your student to the office prior to, or upon return from, an absence.
  4. Visit the office in person.

If your child arrives late, please ensure that he/she signs in at the office upon arrival.

Work At Home Applications

Information will be provided during the first week of school.

Grade 12 Parent/Student Evening

We will have our first grad meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 26th at 7:00 pm in the Rotunda. We will cover all of the relevant information you need to ensure a successful grade 12 experience!

Parent Advisory Council

THSS has a brand new PAC executive this year and they will hold their first meeting in the fall, however the date has not yet been determined. We will post this information on the website and the parent portal once it’s been confirmed.
