Students Moving into Grade 8 in 2016/17

While it is important that every student is afforded the opportunity to attend his or her school of choice, it is equally important that each of our secondary schools are safe, caring and orderly.

Managing student population, class size and staffing in our schools requires that students plan carefully should they wish to change schools. To this end, the following process has been designed to give our schools to best plan for student success.

Grade 8 Course Information – September 2016

Grade 8s at Westview Secondary take a foundation of all core courses as well as fine arts and applied skills electives.  Core courses include English 8, Math 8, Science 8, Social Studies 8, and Physical Education 8.  In the fine arts, students will be exposed to introductory courses in drama, art, social awareness, and digital design; in applied skills, they take sewing, cooking, woodwork, and information technology.

Students who are so inclined can also choose to enrol in band, concert choir, or the Westview Soccer Academy as alternatives to the applied skills or fine arts electives.

It is to be noted that students in Grade 8 do not need to sign up specifically for ‘honours’ courses.  At Westview, it is our expectation that all classes are enriched to this level.
